The “Her Art” EP is the debut release from former Only A Ghost lead singer Louise McCorkindale.
Best described as dark gothic folk, the EP represents a unique collaboration between Louise, multi-instrumentalist Vitaliy Tkachuk and artist Sarah Baganz, who has created artwork and videos to accompany each track.

Biographies

Louise McCorkindale started songwriting as half of Aberdonian duo Only A Ghost and is now releasing some of her solo work, recorded in remote collaboration with musician Vitaliy Tkachuk in Odesa, Ukraine. The result is an almost gothic, distinctly European fusion of classical, folk and electronic elements, reflecting the timeless and intimate nature of the songs, which explore universal themes with minimal production. Louise attributes her style to the long north-eastern winters, and being at an age when contemplating one’s own mortality is unavoidable. Her writing is reminiscent of Vashti Bunyan, and Leonard Cohen, and will be of particular interest to fans of Linda Perhacs, Margo Guryan and Sibylle Baier.

Vitaliy Tkachuk is a guitarist, multi-instrumentalist and composer. At home in any genre, from metal to classical, he specialises in improvisation and jazz. He has balanced the darker aspects of these songs with beautiful rhythm tracks and emotional solos, and jokingly describes the style as “sad but beautiful”.

Sarah Baganz is an artist working in a variety of media, from digital art to clay, and is also a transpersonal arts counsellor, and a lecturer at the Tobias School of Art and Therapy. In the videos, Sarah has put her art and process in service to the emotional message of each song. The combination of Louise’s writing, Vitaliy’s music, and Sarah’s art, creates powerful and beautiful pieces of moving art.
