The “Dark Heart” EP is the latest release by Only A Ghost. As well as the brand new title track, the EP also gathers together their first two singles “Love or The Devil” and “My Secret Ways”. Hearing the three songs in one place really gives a flavour of what Only A Ghost are all about.

About Only A Ghost

Only A Ghost are a singer-songwriter duo from Aberdeen: Bob Seivwright (songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer) and Louise McCorkindale (songwriter, lyricist and singer) best described as Gothic Folk. They write songs with which people of all ages can connect, and which have been described as “a little bit dark, a little bit hopeful, a little bit sexy and a little bit camp”. Their songs tend not to sit in any specific genre, era or gender, but reflect the eclectic musical influences of all decades of the 20th century which shaped their musical experiences growing up in the Granite City.

Only A Ghost began when Bob and Louise joined a jam session with colleagues in 2013 and started writing together. The arrangements are sparse, deceptively simple and melodic, and are created from Bob’s musical vision, and his production and multi-instrumentalist skills. The lyrics, accessible yet multi-layered, are shaped by Louise’s instinct for creating a vivid but recognisable emotional landscape for the listener. In Only A Ghost songs, every instrumental part, every chord, every note and every word earns its place by contributing something to the story.

About “Dark Heart”:

"Dark Heart was inspired by the Scottish noir of the tv series Shetland, resonating with our memories of the dark water of Loch Muick. Once we had that visual image the lyrics fell out of the ether and we explored a couple of melody ideas but they didn’t feel quite right, so the lyrics lay around for a long time. Then one day, randomly, Bob picked them up, sat down with his guitar, something clicked into place, and ten minutes later the song had arrived. We started with a guitar-only track, almost like a folk song, but as we worked on Dark Heart it picked up energy and went a different way. We don’t always know what our songs are about when we are working on them, particularly when they grow, like this one did, from a single very clear visual image. We know what meaning the song holds for us, but we leave it to the listener to decide for themselves what lies at its dark heart."
