Dark Heart

Dark Heart was inspired by the Scottish noir of the tv series Shetland, resonating with our memories of the dark water of Loch Muick. Once we had that visual image the lyrics fell out of the ether and we explored a couple of melody ideas but they didn’t feel quite right, so the lyrics lay around for a long time. Then one day, randomly, Bob picked them up, sat down with his guitar, something clicked into place, and ten minutes later the song had arrived. We started with a guitar-only track, almost like a folk song, but as we worked on Dark Heart it picked up energy and went a different way. We don’t always know what our songs are about when we are working on them, particularly when they grow, like this one did, from a single very clear visual image. We know what meaning the song holds for us, but we leave it to the listener to decide for themselves what lies at its dark heart.
